The bank was founded in 1964 and is head office in Kigali. With this independence, the National Bank of Rwanda has the full mandate to conduct monetary policy whereas fiscal policy issues are the mandate of the Rwanda Government.   The National Bank of Rwanda therefore has to ensure that fiscal developments are consistent with monetary developments. Mission of the National Bank of Rwanda is to achieve price and financial stability to contribute towards national economic growth and development. The Bank shall uphold core values that are an integral part of its vision, mission and corporate culture. The main missions of the Bank shall be:     •  to ensure and maintain price stability;   •  to enhance and maintain a stable and competitive financial system without any exclusion; and   •  to support Government’s general economic policies, without prejudice to the two missions referred to above mentioned. In achieving the missions as mentioned above, the Bank commits itself to providing effective support functions through a sound banking and financial control system, appropriate information system and the development of competent and qualified staff.
