The Central Bank of Argentina (Banco Central De La Republica Argentina) is a National State self-governed institution, whose primary and fundamental mission is to preserve the value of the Argentine currency. When formulating and implementing the monetary and financial policy, it is not subject to the orders, guidelines or instructions of the National Executive branch of government. The Central Bank of Argentina is entrusted with the making and implementation of a consistent monetary policy, ensuring a balanced money market while fostering savings and investment.

 
 

The Central Bank of Argentina, with the attribute of the monetary and supervisor authority of the country, enjoys the following functions:

  • It has the exclusive right to issue and circulate the national banknote and currency;
  • It serves as Bank of banks;

  • It keeps and manages the foreign reserve of the Republic of Argentina;
  • It compiles, adopts and implements the foreign exchange regime and the exchange rate policy;
  • It prompts the normal functioning of payment systems;
  • It licenses or revokes a license on exercising banking activity and supervises the banking activity to ensure the banking system stability;
  • It acts as banker, advisor to, and as fiscal agent, of the government of the Republic of Argentina;
  • It compiles, approves and implements the monetary policy of the country; and
  • employs the appropriate monetary instruments to achieve the monetary policy targets.

For the purposes of monetary and foreign exchange regulation, it may purchase and sell notes, foreign currency and other financial assets in the spot and forward markets. It may also issue notes or bonds as well as shares in its own assets.

The Central Bank of Argentina is entrusted with the making and implementation of a consistent monetary policy, ensuring a balanced money market while fostering savings and investment. In order to make monetary policy transparent and sustainable, the Monetary Program is disclosed as part of the implementation process before the beginning of each year, communicating the inflation target and the projected total change in money stock. The Monetary Program is consistent with the aims of achieving a balance between money supply and demand and favoring an environment of price stability, where economic agents are able to make right decisions.
